The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) on Tuesday, embarked on a road show to sensitise the public on need for young people to imbibe to take up professional accounting career.

The campaign, organised by the Abuja district chapter of the institute has its theme as ‘catch them young’.

Supreme Magazine reports that the campaign is part of ICAN’s measure to build the choice of professional accounting career in the minds of young generation right from secondary schools.

Mrs Adeola Ojo, Chairperson, Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) F.C.T chapter, noted that the Accounting Technicians Scheme (ATS) will enable youngsters have a head start in their accounting career before graduating.

“This Accounting Technicians Scheme will give them an edge in their professional pursuit as it will provide them with an opportunity to enrol for the ICAN professional examinations and excel.

“This scheme will also enable young secondary school leavers awaiting admission, to get busy and not be idle.

“It is a three year programme, which has two diets in a year, that is, March and September.

“Depending on how fast and how one can catch up, a student can even finish the programme within two years,” she said.

Ojo added that parents had the responsibility of encouraging their children who had chosen a career path in accounting, by enrolling them for the scheme.

She added that interested candidates should visit the official website of the institute via www.ican-ngr.org to get more details on the scheme.

Supreme Magazine reports that the road show which took off at Government Secondary School Garki ended at the SWAN study centre at Area one.
