Brokers award insurance policies, gadgets to exceptional students, parents
Olutusin noted that the brokers would not rest on their oars to promote insurance in the country, as plans were also on the ground to spread the benefits to university students.
The Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (NCRIB) and Lagos Area Committee (LAC) on Tuesday offered free insurance policy covers to six exceptional secondary school students and their parents in Lagos.
The brokers also rewarded the students with laptops, Android phones, and books for their outstanding performance at the recently concluded inter-school quiz competition for secondary schools organised by NCRIB-LAC in Lagos.
Mr. Ademola Olutusin, Chairman, NCRIB-LAC, announced this at the council’s 20th anniversary, Annual General Meeting (AGM), and End of Year Lecture.
The theme of the lecture is “Importance of the local chapters to the growth of the Centre.”
Master Sanni Shazily and Miss Zainab Adelabu, both in SS3 at Aje Comprehensive Senior High School, Sabo-Yaba, emerged in first place from the competition and received one laptop each.
Miss Zubeidat Idris in SS3 and Master Michael Ogunade in SS2 at Ijaye-Ijokoro Senior High School, Ijaye, bagged second place and received one Android phone each.
Also, Miss Misturat Folorunso and Master Qudus Alamu, both in SS3 of Araromi Senior High School, Orile-Iganmu, came in third and were given one android phone each, while books were also donated to their schools.
Olutusin said that the students and their schools emerged best, having competed with nine schools across the state.
He explained that the students were covered under the personal accident insurance policy, while their parents would enjoy free group life insurance cover of an undisclosed sum assured for one year.
“The objective of the cover is to use the students as a contact point to market insurance for their parents.
“Following the insurance cover, if anything happens to the students either in school, at home, or anywhere, the policy would take care of their medical bill to a certain amount.
“The coverage for the parents implies that if anything happens to the parents during the insurance coverage, the policy would pay a lump sum to take care of the students’ education throughout their secondary school,” he said.
According to him, the quiz competition is part of the area committee’s catch-the-young initiative on deepening insurance penetration.
The NCRIB-LAC chairman said the competition was also an avenue to sensitise the students to how to become chartered insurers after completing their secondary school level without going to the university.
Olutusin noted that the brokers would not rest on their oars to promote insurance in the country, as plans were also on the ground to spread the benefits to university students.
He, however, lauded the past leaders, current executives, and members of the broking fraternity for their contributions to the growth of the area committee in the last 20 years.
According to him, NCRIB-LAC has recorded a remarkable history of accomplishments over the years, including the development and execution of market awareness programmes aimed at driving businesses to member companies.
“With such a track record of success, NCRIB-LAC will face increasing demand and pressure, but we are blessed with members with the power, integrity, and goodwill to overcome all challenges," he said.
NCRIB’s President, Prince Babatunde Oguntade, expressed joy over an astonishing milestone of two decades attained by the area committee, where he had also served as the fifth chairman.
Oguntade commended the effort of the past executives of the area committee for the innovative, collaborative spirit and selflessness that laid the foundation of achievements for which the committee proudly celebrates.
In his lecture, the 59th President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Dr. Innocent Okwuosa, said that the contribution of the institute’s local chapters was important to the growth of the centre.
Okwuosa, represented by Dr. Sanni Adeyemi, a council member of ICAN, noted that the significance of the institute’s local chapters to the centre extended far beyond boundaries.
“Local chapters help institutes gain popularity and credibility by exhibiting various initiatives set up by the centre and also having a grip on members at the chapter level,” he said.
The highlight of the event was the presentation of awards to the past leaders of the committee and outstanding members who have contributed to the growth of the area committee over the years.
