Military Vows: Igboland Elections Cannot Be Stopped

The General stated that the continuation of military operations in the region does not indicate that terrorists continue to occupy any portion of the nation's territory.

The Military has made it clear that no one, not even a faction of the Outlawed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), can prevent the 2023 elections from taking place in Igboland, the South-East states, and the rest of the nation.

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, stated today, February 13, at the 25th edition of President Muhammadu Buhari's Scorecard Series that the armed forces is collaborating with the police and other security agencies to control the criminal threat posed by the IPOB.


General Irabor, in response to a query on the threat by the faction of the proscribed IPOB led by Simon Ekpa to halt the elections in the south east zone, emphasized that no individual or group can stop the elections.

General Irabor stated, "No Nigerian area is under the authority of Boko Haram or any other terrorist organization."


The armed forces are collaborating with the police and other security services to eradicate the criminal threat posed by IPOB and Eastern Security Network.

He stated that all communities in the country's north-eastern zones have been cleansed of criminal groups.

According to him, the military's mission is to eradicate all terrorists from the North-East region.

The General stated that the continuation of military operations in the region does not indicate that terrorists continue to occupy any portion of the nation's territory.
