The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 2 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Aminu Chinade, says the current security challenges facing Nigeria are more complex compared to the past.

Chinade, represented by the Division's Chief of Staff, Brig.-Gen. Ismail Oloyede, said there was a need for a robust, dynamic, proactive national security framework and infrastructure in order to deal with the growing security threats.

A statement issued on Tuesday in Ibadan by the division's Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt.-Col. Charles Ekeocha, said the GOC stated this when Team 5 of the National Defense College (NDC), Course 31 on the National Study Tour of Oyo State, led by Air Commodore S.A. Madaki, visited the division.

He enjoined the team to analyze the challenges and other relevant instruments to offer lasting strategies for building socio-economic resilience under the prevailing contemporary security challenges.

Chinade said that peace and security are the core aim and objective of the government, but the contemporary security challenges have continued to remain the major setback to achieving meaningful socio-economic development in Nigeria.

The GOC said the security challenges also posed threats to the lives and properties of citizens, thereby discouraging local businesses, scaring away foreign investments, and having adversely impacted the country's image.

He told the team that as future strategic leaders, they should interrogate parameters such as social developments, a holistic society approach, good governance, and national cohesion, among others.

Chinade said these are viable pillars of building resilience, noting that if carefully employed, they could be the much-needed panacea for improving the security of lives and the well-being of the population.
