A man who reportedly attacked three police officers with a knife near Nuremberg in Germany died after police shot him at a train station, the police spokesman said.
The spokesman reported that the incident took place on Sunday in the southern city of Lauf an der Pegnitz.
The report said the attacker passed away at the scene in spite of the immediate first aid measures being initiated.
According to the police, the attacker first targeted a police car on patrol.
When the officers got out of the vehicle, he proceeded to attack them. “A knife was also involved,” the spokesman said.
The spokesman said the officers were uninjured and did not provide details on how many shots were fired, who shot, or where the man was hit.
He also did not initially comment on the identity of the deceased or the background of his attack.
According to the police spokesman, the area in front of the station has been cordoned off.
