The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, has warned its officials to shun all corrupt practices that can tarnish the integrity of the corps.

Mr Ahmed Umar, the new FRSC Sector Commander in the state, gave the warning during a familiarisation tour of FRSC Mowe Unit Command in Ogun on Tuesday.

Supreme reports that Umar was posted from Kebbi Sector Command and assumed as Ogun Sector Commander on June 15.

Supreme reports that Umar took over from Mr Clement Oladele, who has been elevated to the rank of Assistant Corps Marshal (ACM) and now the new Commandant, FRSC Academy, Udi, Enugu State.

Umar warned that any officer involved in extortion would face stiff sanctions.

The sector commander further appealed to officers and men of the Unit to always abide by COVID-19 safety rules.

“Wearing of face mask and social distancing is compulsory while on the roads, in the office and at home.

“It is the FRSC prayers that the COVID-19 pandemic that is ravaging globally will not claim any life in the Corps,” he said.

He reiterated the need for officials to ensure that motorists and passengers obeyed the rules and regulations in view of anticipated increase in vehicles on the roads as Federal Government lifted ban on interstate travels.

Supreme reports that for more than three months, the Federal Government imposed ban on interstate travel as part of measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 in the country.

Umar noted that exercising patience by all road users had become imperative on Lagos-Ibadan expressway, coupled with ongoing constructions on the road.

He appealed that all hands must be on the deck to ensure free flow of traffic.

”The motorists and passengers must be patient and avoid unnecessary rush as this could lead to unwarranted loss of lives.

“Drivers should not speed while passengers should also live up to their responsibility of cautioning the drivers against reckless manoeuvres,” he said.

The Unit Commander, Assistant Corps Commander (ACM), Mr Lucas Oguntade, in his response, said officials of the unit would redouble their efforts to ensure free flow of traffic always.

Oguntade said slow movement experienced along some sections of the road was occasioned by narrowed lanes.

He, therefore, appealed to motorists to obey construction area speed limit and warned that the command would not tolerate driving against traffic for any reason.
