Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi, on Monday, distributed brand new buses to the 21 Local Government Legislative Councils in the state to support and enhance their legislative functions.
Idris handed over the keys to the 21 Chairmen of the Local Government Areas (LGAs) at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi.
In a brief speech, he said the distribution followed requests from the council chairmen on the need to support local governance, especially in remote areas.
“This will give the councillors an opportunity to travel around and respond to the needs of your communities.
“I understand that some councillors do not have vehicles, so this gesture will go a long way in addressing your transportation needs,” he said.
The governor urged the council chairmen to ensure proper use and regular maintenance of the vehicles.
“Vehicles are very expensive now, please ensure you assign responsible drivers, who will take good care of them,” he said.
Responding on behalf of his counterparts, the Chairman, Birnin Kebbi LGA, Alhaji Dahiru Na-Yaya, thanked the governor for the gesture and assured him that the vehicles would be used solely for legislative functions.
