Supreme News reports that the Court of Appeal has recognised Lamidi Apapa as the legitimate national leader of the Labour Party (LP).

A legal dispute between Apapa and Julius Abure, who had been named chairman of the LP by an appeals court earlier in August, culminated in the court's ruling on Thursday.

The court also mandated that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) make public the identities of each candidate put out by the Apapa-led branch of the LP for the governorships of Imo, Kogi, and Bayelsa States.

Remember that on April 5, 2023, a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court enjoined Julius Abure and three other Labour Party (LP) members from posing as the party's national officers?

In a subsequent judgement issued on May 19, 2023, Justice Muazu granted an order of stay of execution on the suspension of Abure and the other officials.

In a decision issued on May 28, 2023, the Edo State High Court agreed with the decision and appointed Abure as the LP national chairman. This stance was furthered by an Edo State Appeal Court decision that upheld Abure as the party chairman.
