Man in court for allegedly giving false information

The defendant conspired with others at large to trespass into a farmland belonging to one Mr Emmanuel Madaki.

A 70-year-old man, Abdullahi Haruna, on Tuesday appeared before an Upper Area Court, Gwagwalada, Abuja, for allegedly giving false information to the police.

Haruna, who lives at Rugan Fulani Piri Village, Kwali, Abuja, is also charged with criminal trespass and inciting public disturbance.

The prosecutor, Mr Dabo Yakubu, told the court that the defendant conspired with others at large to trespass into a farmland belonging to one Mr Emmanuel Madaki.

Dabo that the defendant tried to lay claims to the farmland before the police, but investigations showed it was not his.

Yakubu said that the defendant also incited some youths to formant trouble and disturb public peace in the area.

”His activities led to disturbances between Gbagyi and Fulani people living in Piri Village,” he said.

The prosecutor said that the offences contravened Sections 144, 348 and 178 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Mr Abdullahi Abdulkarim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000, with one surety in like sum.

Abdulkarim ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until June 1 for further hearing.
