‘Okada riders’ vice chair accused for alleged incitement

The Vice Chairman of the ‘Okada riders’ Union, Rabiu Abdullahi, was docked in an Upper Area Court Gwagwalada, FCT, on Tuesday for allegedly inciting public disturbance.

The police charged Abdullahi, vice chairman, ‘Okada’ Union Iddo branch with inciting disturbance, criminal force, assault and mischief.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Dabo Yakubu, told the court that Yunusa Umar of Iddo Sarki airport road Abuja, member of Civilian Joint Task Force (JTF) Iddo unit reported the matter at the Iddo police station on April 11.

Yakubu said that the complainant while on duty with his colleagues, controlling traffic at Iddo junction was assaulted by the defendant.

He said that the defendant also instructed some motorcyclists, at large to assault staff members of the JTF as a result, there tension in the community.

He said that the complainant’s shirt worth N5,000 was tore by the okada ridders.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 114, 265 and 326 of the Penal Code.

The defendant pleaded not guilty.

The Judge, Malam Abdullahi Abdulkarim, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like sum.

Abdulkarim ordered that the surety must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

He adjourned the case until May 11 for hearing.
