Woman in court for allegedly inflicting injury on teenager

The police in Lagos on Friday arraigned a 39-year-old woman, Ngozi Okoronkwo, before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court for allegedly using hot iron to inflict injury on a teenager.
The defendant, a trader, who resides at 26, Alabi Oyo St., Ejigbo, Lagos, is tried for assault and grievous harm.
The prosecutor, ASP Raji Akeem, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 1, 2024, at the defendant’s residence.
Akeem said that the defendant used hot iron to inflict injury on her 14-year-old adopted daughter’s arms .
The prosecutor said the victim’s class teacher met her crying and upon enquiry, she told her how her “mother ” used hot iron on her .
The offences according to the prosecutor contravened Sections 172 and 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted the defendant to bail of N150,000 with two sureties in likesum.
Osunsanmi adjourned the case until April 11 for mention.
