Over 587 Million Condoms on Val’s Day –This is What it Means

On Valentine’s Day, the focus is love. Or, the focus ought to be love yet what we have come to witness is Valentine’s Day abuse. Writing from the negative side is not just necessary, it is funny.

Last year, a pastor was preaching, he said he frequents Market Square and prior to Valentine’s Day he usually stopped there to purchase fresh bread, he would always see the container of condoms around but on Valentine’s Day evening, before he got there, all the containers were empty, he saw a clerk replacing them. It almost amused him but he charged himself in the spirit to eschew immorality inwardly and outwardly.

The truth was plain right before him. The decadence was boldly sticking into his nose.

Care in love can be shown to humans, animals, plants even properties on that day and it will be alright and not painting a whole wrong and ugly picture of something as beautiful as love.

Marriage is for a man and a woman. And frankly, they don’t use condoms in marriage. The case of using condoms in marriage is very rare like leprosy. No man will decide to not go skin to skin with his wife. In fact, couple while being sexually active in relationship use condoms but sometimes go without it and once they get married, it is like dancing and singing, finally, we are in bad terms with using protection.

Hence, it is not factual that married people bought all those CDs.

Condoms were invented for protection against STDs and prevention of unwanted pregnancies and another way around is taking contraceptives for women. All of these with their various side effects.

Why the Invention?

Looking from the imperfectionist theory, the first answer is clear. No human is perfect hence, there comes to be solutions for when man make mistakes intentionally and unintentionally. We cannot condemn various inventions in the world but their negatives look us in the face and most times, we ask why. We think that they shouldn’t be invented so humans can be more careful and learn to deal with their issue without them. It is like a snake with two heads, whichever way you go, it bites.

The National Agency for the Control of AIDS beckoned on youths to show restraint during Valentine’s Day as a new report revealed that Nigerians now consume 587 million condoms annually. The agency gave the advice in a statement by its Director-General, Dr. Gambo Aliyu. The agency said young women between the ages of 20 to 24 have an HIV prevalence rate that is three times that of men within the same age bracket.

Young people have resolved to spend Valentine’s Day in a risky way. A survey on the figure of condoms used annually was released on Val’s Day, mainly because it happens to be sold highest on that day. What this means is that the road to destruction gets wider daily.  On Valentine’s Day, only but few celebrate love, the rest celebrate sin.
