The President of Nigeria Powerlifting Federation, Charles Ezenwann, has solicited the support of corporate bodies and individuals for powerlifters preparing for the 2024 Paralympics.

Ezenwann made the call while speaking with the newsmen in Lagos on Monday.

He said that the power lifters needed the support towards their camping for the Paralympic qualifiers slated for June in Georgia.

“The federation needs funding from both government and the corporate bodies towards adequate preparation for Olympic Qualifiers.

“The Federal Government’s effort alone is not enough in funding sports in the country, there is also the need for private sector involvement in funding sports.

“The Minister of sports has really tried for the team; his involvement in sports in the country shows how he loves sports development and taking it to another level.

“We need financial assistance for our team to be in camp in May to be able to perform better at the next qualifiers slated for June in Georgia,” he said.

The president said that the Nigeria power lifters at the just concluded World Championship in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, won nine medals for the country.

He said that the team would earn more qualification at the World Championship in Georgia, if the federation gets sponsors and financial assistance from corporate organisations.

“If we can be in camp early and have more training for the last qualifiers in Georgia, I believe the team will perform very well. It will enable them to participate in the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in France,” he said.
