Edo Govt. warns unlicensed revenue collectors, suspends consultancy services

Edo Government on Monday warned against the persistent illegal revenue collection by unauthorized agents and touts across the state.

The state government also announced the immediate suspension of all consultancy services and related service providers in the state’s public service.

Umar Musa Ikhilor, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) gave the warning while briefing newsmen in Benin

Ikhilor noted that the warning became necessary following the rising concerns over the activities of unlicensed individuals exploiting residents without official mandate.

He said,” Effective immediately, only statutory and licensed revenue collectors are permitted to operate on behalf of the government, particularly in motor parks and other areas of economic activity.

“The government emphasized that the suspension of all non-commissioned revenue collectors remains in force, ” he said.

The SSG urged residents to report any unauthorised revenue collectors to the police, adding that government had vowed to arrest and prosecute offenders.

He reiterated that government was resolute in protecting the lives and property of Edo citizens.

Speaking further on the suspension of consultancy, Ikhilor said that all financial transactions with the affected consultants and service providers are to be put on hold immediately

” Pending when the review committee, established by the governor, submits its report, all accounting officers, heads of ministries, departments, and agencies are expected to take note and comply strictly with this directive,” Ikhilor added
