UrbanID, a company providing software and services for identification has emphasised the crucial role of effective identity management in combating the pervasive problem of ghost workers in organisations.

Mr Olatunji Durodola, Founder of UrbanID, said this in a statement made available to newsmen on Thursday.

He said that asides tackling the issue of ghost workers, identity management could be used to solve leakage challenges in agencies and organisations.

Durodola explained that in today’s globalised world, a country’s identity system, without a doubt, played a pivotal role in its continued sovereign existence, and was one of the most significant and valued national infrastructure.

He explained that whether for security, humanitarian action, national economic planning or for international networking, a country’s identity system was the yardstick on which to tell its focus on development and humanitarian policies.

“A robust identity ecosystem has been recognised as a key backbone upon which a country springs to socio-economic development.

“The United Nations describes legal identity as basic characteristics of an individual’s identity like name, sex, place and date of birth conferred through registration.

“It is also the issuance of a certificate by an authorised civil registration authority following the occurrence of birth.

“As nations look to implement digital identity systems in line with global best practices, there are quite a few unique organisations offering technologies and solutions that assist countries to establish robust digital identity ecosystems,” he said.

Durodola said that UrbanID was providing secure and robust identity management solutions to governments, large enterprises and non-profit organisations across regions of the world.

This, he said, was in a bid to combat identity theft which was a major challenge all over the world,

Durodola added that UrbanID had also spearheaded and created unique tokenisation tech solutions which provided services that strengthened and enhanced security of end-user data protection.

He said that these tech solutions also protected Personally Identifiable Information (PII).

“Perhaps in one area where the company has impacted identity management across emerging economies most is in providing services and expertise in Public Key Infrastructure (PKI).

These services and expertise in PKI, the founder stressed, assisted governments in securing their information systems, databases and operations.

“Eliminating the phenomenon of ghost has stood out for UrbanID, therefore, endearing it to governments at both national and sub-national levels.

“It is one of the reasons we are assisting the National Identity Management Commission and seeing monumental gains Nigeria has made in enrolling over 120 million citizens with National Identification Number (NIN).
