The All Progressives Congress (APC) National Executive Committee (NEC) elected former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje as the party's National Chairman on Thursday.

Ajibola Basiru, a former Senate spokesman from Osun State, was elected National Secretary by the party's National Executive Committee.

The two party officials were elected today at the party's 12th National Executive Committee meeting, which was held at the Congress Hall of the Transcorp Hilton in Abuja.

Addressing party officials shortly after his election, Ganduje praised the President and assured that internal democracy would reign supreme in the party throughout his tenure.

The former Kano governor promised to keep a scientific register of party members and to prioritise election administration and conflict resolution.

According to him, all party members would have a level playing field during party primaries.

Ganduje pledged to move swiftly to guarantee the party's victory in all upcoming governorship elections across the nation.

The NEC meeting was attended by President Bola Tinubu, Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Progressive Governors' Forum, and National Assembly party leaders, among others.

The President, speaking to the 12th National Executive Committee of the party, stated that the APC has won the elections and that it is now time to deliver on the promises of good governance to the Nigerian people.

The President insisted that the elections of 2023 were the most successful in Nigeria's history.

Ex-President Muhammadu Buhari and former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were visibly absent from the NEC meeting. Bisi Akande, the party's first National Chairman, was present.

The NEC meeting came after the APC national caucus meeting on Wednesday.

Two members of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) resigned in mid-July. Senators Abdullahi Adamu and Iyiola Omisore resigned as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party, respectively.
