The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has rescued a male passenger who sustained severed injury in a head-on collision between a commercial bus and a dispatch rider.

The General Manager of LASTMA, Mr Olalekan Bakare-Oki, confirmed this in a statement made available to the newsmen on Friday in Lagos.

The statement was signed by Mr Taofiq Adebayo, Director, Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of LASTMA.

Bakare-Oki said the accident took place near Alalade Memorial Hospital, inward Cement, Dopemu.

“The collision involved a Volkswagen commercial bus (commonly referred to as “Danfo”), bearing the registration number KSF 588 XP, and a dispatch motorcycle.

“Preliminary findings attribute the cause of the accident to a brake system failure in the Volkswagen bus, which resulted in a devastating head-on collision with the dispatch rider.

“The timely intervention of LASTMA personnel was crucial in preventing additional casualties.

“In the immediate aftermath, LASTMA officers swiftly rescued a male passenger who sustained a severe fracture injury, transporting him to a nearby medical facility for urgent care,” he said.

He added that security operatives from Afonga Police Station promptly arrived at the scene, providing necessary security cover and maintaining order.

Bakare-Oki said that with a concerted effort, LASTMA officials cleared the debris from both the Volkswagen bus and the dispatch motorcycle, thereby restoring the smooth flow of traffic in the affected area.

He said that the damaged vehicles had since been handed over to the police for further examination and investigation.
