Lawyer mourns legal titan, Nwabueze

A renowned legal practitioner and human activist, Dr Kayode Ajulo, has described late Prof. Ben Nwabueze, a Senior Advocate of Nibgeria (SAN), as a legal titan and beacon of wisdom.

Nwabueze, the pioneer Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo died at his Lagos residence on Oct. 29, 2023 age 94, according to media reports.

Ajulo in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday further described the late legal luminary as a mentor and an extraordinary man.

He said his departure has created a vacuum that would be difficult to fill in legal profession.

Ajulo said Nwabueze was not just an attorney or academic but a versatile attorney, a celebrated academic, an authority, and a guru in constitutional law.

“I cannot help but gather my thoughts to pay tribute to his remarkable life, his immense contributions, and the profound impact he made on the legal profession in Nigerian and the entire world”, he said.

He praised Nwabueze’s brilliance, expertise, deep understanding of the law, and unwavering commitment to justice which he said, made him a colossus among his peers.

“His work had greatly influenced him and recalled with nostalgia the past disagreements he had with the deceased over many topical national issues during President Goodluck Jonathan administration.

“Nwabueze’s influence extended far beyond his legal career, as he authored over 30 books and treatises on various legal subjects’’, he said.

Ajulo saluted Nwabueze as an academic giant, and a true role model, recognising his contributions to the Nigeria’s legal system and his tireless efforts towards promoting the course of justice and constitutionalism.
