The Police in Lagos on Thursday arraigned a 40-year-old butcher, Garuba Usman, for allegedly failing to produce one Abdulsalami Saidu for whom he stood as surety.

Usman, whose residential address was not provided, is facing a count charge of obstructing the course of justice.

He, however, pleaded not guilty.

The prosecutor, Insp Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the defendant had, on Aug. 8, at Oko-Oba, Agege, Lagos State, prevented the police from carrying out their duties by failing to produce Saidu at the Oko-Oba Police Station when needed.

Odugbo said that the defendant had stood surety for Saidu, also a butcher, at the police Station.

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 97 (1)(3) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mr Lateef Owolabi, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owolabi ordered that one of the sureties must be a blood relation of the defendant.

He added that the two sureties must provide evidence of three years’ tax payment to Lagos State Government.

He adjourned the case until Sept. 27 for mention.
