Suspended Controversial EFCC Chief Whisked Away From DSS Headquarters
It was gathered that the embattled suspended head of the anti-corruption agency was transferred to a new facility in order to have complete control over him after he allegedly refused to speak with the secret police as they sought statements from him in confinement.
Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), was driven away from the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters in Abuja to an undisclosed private facility, according to Naija News.
It was gathered that the embattled suspended head of the anti-corruption agency was transferred to a new facility in order to have complete control over him after he allegedly refused to speak with the secret police as they sought statements from him in confinement.
Bawa was previously quoted as telling investigators that the DSS lacked the authority to hold him without charges, hence his refusal to write any statements while in custody.
On Tuesday, however, a source who reportedly spoke with SaharaReporters about the matter revealed that Bawa had been transferred from the DSS headquarters to one of its private facilities.
"They have transferred Bawa from the DSS headquarters to one of their private facilities in order to exert complete control over him after he refused to write the statements requested of him," a senior security source who spoke on condition of anonymity reportedly said.
According to Naija News, Bawa has been detained alongside the suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) governor, Godwin Emefiele.
A few days after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's inauguration as Muhammadu Buhari's successor, the two were suspended.
Bawa and Emefiele have been charged with corruption and abuse of office.
