Alhaji Muhammadu Sa'ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, has assured President-elect Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that he will assume power on May 29 ''whether they like it or not.''

He urged Nigerians to pray for the forthcoming government's success in directing the country's affairs.

The aim of the event organised by the World Bank was to devise a strategy to enhance the country's human capital development, particularly the education of young girls.

The Sultan, who was urging attendees not to abandon the advocacy of ending child marriage and other impediments to the growth of girls when they returned to their communities, stated: "There must be a change because in the coming days or weeks there will be a new government. What can we do to help stabilise that government?

"Whether anyone likes it or not, a new government will assume office on May 29. What can we do besides pray? We believe in the Almighty, in a God who gives and takes.

"After that, what then? What can we do to assist the government in stabilising and moving the nation forward? he asked.

It is an opportunity for religious and traditional leaders to collaborate for the welfare of the nation, he added.

"Let's continue to work as one large family with various mothers and fathers or whatever, but Nigeria is our primary father and mother." In all that we do as religious leaders, there must be equity and justice, and this is what I believe we need to discuss the most, said Sultan.
