The Kaduna State Pension Bureau says it has initiated processes for the payment of retirement and death benefits of beneficiaries who do not have bank accounts.

The Executive Secretary of the Bureau, Prof. Salamatu Isah said this in a statement on Thursday in Kaduna.

According to her, beneficiaries will be identified by Local Government Pension Desk Officers as well as their counterparts at various Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs).

Isah said that 112 beneficiaries were under Batch 21 of the state pension bureau while 134 others under Batch 19 of the LGCs.

She said that verification and payment would be conducted next week at various zonal headquarters.

The Executive Secretary said the state government has released N920 million for payment of retirement and death benefits to beneficiaries under the defined benefit of the old pension scheme.

About N400 million has been provided for payment to state pensioners while beneficiaries in the LGCs would received N520 million.

The government, she said, earlier approved N900 million for payment of Accrued Rights for retirees and families of deceased beneficiaries under the new Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS).

“Payment of retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme is being done by the Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs), government will only pay the past savings.

“Savings known as Accrued Rights is the retirees’ entitlements prior to the commencement of the Contributory Pension Scheme in 2017, and they are paid to PFAs instead of individual beneficiaries.

“Some N600,000.000 has been allocated to the state retirees and deceased families, while N300,000.000 allocated to local governments’ retirees and families of the deceased.

“The November 2022 release came two weeks after Gov. Nasir El-Rufai approved N1,160,000,000.00 for the payment of gratuitiesk for Batch 17 local government pensioners.

“The amount also covers Batch 19 of state government retirees and families of deceased under the old Defined Benefits Scheme (DBS),” she said.
