The Yobe Board of Internal Revenue has launched the Single Interstate Road Tax Sticker (SIRTS) and the Single Haulage Fee (SHF) to address multiple taxation.

Alhaji Idris Mohammed, the acting Chairman of the Board, stated this in an interview with the newsmen in Damaturu on Wednesday.

He said the SIRTS and SHF, which would take effect on Feb.1, 2023 were initiated by the Joint Tax Board to harmonise payment of taxes by commercial motorists.

“ The implementation of the initiative will be driven by an e-enforcement platform wherein the enforcement agents and officers of Federal Road Safety Commission will be attached to various entry/exit points.

“ The e-enforcement agents will have a device that can capture the number of a vehicle from 100 meter radius.

”The system automatically checks the level of compliance of the vehicle without stopping it.

“ Upon completion of system check, a broadcast message is sent to other entry/exit points. Only non-compliant vehicles will be apprehended at the next entry/exit point,” Mohammed said.

The chairman said under the new tax regime, N16,000 would be paid for an 18-tyre vehicle, N11,000 for 12/14 tyres, N5,500 for luxury buses, N2,500 for pick up vans, while cars were exempted.

He, however, said the annual renewal of particulars of vehicles was still in force, adding that the payment ranged from N1,875 to N6,250 depending on the type of the vehicle.

On taxes for grains and cattle, Mohammed said the items would be taxed using SIRTS and SHF initiative.

The chairman also said a mobile court was already operational to try defaulting motorists.

He called on tax payers to endeavour to pay their taxes as and when due to enable the government to execute projects that have direct bearing to the lives of the people.
