FRSC cautions motorists against speeding in the rains
As the rainy season gradually sets in, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has advised motorists to avoid speeding during rainfalls in view of poor visibility and poor road friction.
Its sector commander in Enugu State, Mr. Adeyemi Sokunbi, gave the advice on Saturday during an interview with the newsmen in Enugu.
He said it was necessary for motorists to adhere to safety rules to avoid auto crashes as the rainy season sets in.
Sokunbi said that motorists must ensure that their wipers and lighting systems are working optimally, adding that functional air conditioners could also help motorists increase visibility when it is raining.
“If you have no functional air conditioner in your vehicle, fog could affect your windscreen during rainfall. The proper thing is to park and wait for the rain to subside for clear visibility before moving ahead,” he said.
He also advised motorists on the need to have good tyres with good grip on the road for good friction to help the brake system during rainfall.
Sokunbi urged motorists to aim for safety during the rainy season by avoiding flooded roads, especially unfamiliar roads.
“It is better and wiser to park your vehicle when the road is flooded until the flood subsides; you can continue your journey later.
“This also applies if the rain is coming with serious wind and thunderstorm activities. Safety first is the watchword,” he said.
