Students commend army over fight against insecurity

A cross section of secondary school students in Nasarawa State have commended the Nigeria Army over the ongoing fight against insecurity and the sacrifices of its personnel in defending the nation.

The students made the commendation at an event organised to commemorate the 2023 Nigerian Army Day celebration on Monday in Lafia.

Eze Udoka, a student of Government College, Lafia, called on Nigerians to support the army and other security agencies to win the war against insecurity in Nigeria.

Udoka, who commended the army for organising the event, explained that the lesson learnt had spurred him to become a solider in future.

“The short documentary we watched on the objectives, responsibility, challenges and success stories of the army say a lot of how much sacrifice they are making to keep us safe

“I am already thinking of joining the army after my secondary education to contributemy quota to nation building” he added.

Another student, Joy Zilli of Science School, Lafia, said that the various lectures and presentations at the event had increased her respect for officers and men of the Nigeria army.

”Men of the Nigeria army and other security agencies need our support; these are men and women who sacrifice everything to ensure our society remain peaceful

”My views and perception about army personnel has changed; I will not look down on any army personnel again,” she said.

Earlier, Maj.-Gen. Owoyinka Soyele, the Commander, Four Special Forces, Doma, said that the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Maj.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, had directed that the 2023 army day celebration be marked in schools in order to build positive character on the younger generation.

Soyele said that the country was currently in need of people with integrity, hence the need to get young students to key into the vision that would help to build a pool that the nation would rely on at all times.

“This is why the COAS feels that advocacy for building good character should be taken to secondary schools to catch them young,” the commander said.
