Firm donates computers worth N5m to public secondary school in Ibadan
A firm, Edge Tech Solutions, on Thursday donated 10 sets of computer worth N5 million People’s Girls Grammar School in Ibadan.
The firm’s Director, Dr Seyi Akanbi, said the donation of the computer systems was to give students of the school the exposure to the world of technology.
“In this age, it’s no longer about computers being very important but it has become the key aspect of our lives that we cannot run away from.
“The earlier the students have access to this kind of tools that enable them to actually have a hands-on experience, the better for them.
“It’s not just going to enhance their learning; it’s going to prepare them for the future,” he said.
Akanbi underscored the need for the resources that would make the students to perform better in the 21st century.
While commending government’s efforts in the education sector, Akanbi called for concerted efforts and deliberate investments in the future generations.
“This is because when these students graduate, the world they are going to live in is certainly different from the world that is in existence right now.
“So, government needs to pay more attention to where the future is going, the trend and the patterns.
“Government should also provide the resources that will prepare the students for the future so that by the time they get to there, their experience will be better than our own,” he said.
The director recalled some of the limitations he had while in school, such as little resources and lack of preparedness to face life’s challenges.
He underscored the importance of being intentional in providing resources, training and tools that would make children to have a better future.
In her address, Principal of the Senior School, Mrs Veronica Alabi, said that the sets of computer would impact the students positively.
“I assure you, it will improve their learning experience and provide them with access to wealth of information and opportunity for growth,” she said.
Alabi expressed appreciation to the company for the gesture and its recognition of the importance of technology in modern education.
“Your contribution will have a lasting impact on our students’ academic journey and their future prospects,” she said.
Also, the representative of the school’s Old Students’ Association, Mrs Olufunmilayo Omotosho, appreciated the company for the donations.
“We assure you that we will make optimal use of these computers and handle them with utmost care,” she said.
Omotosho, who is the Principal of St. Teresa’s College, Ibadan, said that the items would benefit not only the students but the teachers as well.
Two of the students, who spoke with news men, Peace Agboola and Olamiposi Ojeleke, said the systems would help them to easily access information and have a better understanding of the world.
