The Redeemer’s University, Ede, Osun State, inducted 28 graduates as physiotherapists on Tuesday and awarded them the Physiotherapy Degree (B.PT).

Prof. Ahmad Yerima, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, said in his address that the physiotherapy graduates (Class of 2023) were the institution’s first set.

Yerima advised them to be good ambassadors of the institution, saying that he was optimistic that producing more medical and clinical graduates would help to cushion the brain drain affecting the health sector.

Prof. Ahmad Rufai, the Registrar, Medical Rehabilitation Board of Nigeria (MRTB), administered the physiotherapy oath to the graduates.

Four of the graduates received awards for having the best results in the physiotherapy department.

Rufai commended the new physiotherapists for their patience and hard work, saying that it saw them through their academic journey.

He advised them to ensure they undergo their internship in certified health institutions or establishments with good physiotherapy equipment, as their certification as physiotherapists was hinged on it.

Dr. Adesola Odole, an Associate Professor, Department of Physiotherapy, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, said in her keynote address that physiotherapists could now treat patients online through modern technology.

Odole, who spoke on “Digital Rehabilitation in Nigeria”, said that statistics showed that Nigeria had a ratio of 4,000 physiotherapists to 200 million patients.

She said that with the adoption of digital health, patients could access healthcare services online using Internet-enabled gadgets.

She said that digital health (which is now available in Nigeria) connected patients, through internet gadgets such as mobile phones, laptops, computers, and others, with health professionals and specialist doctors.
