Nigerian Singer, Chidozie Ugochinyere, popularly known as “Fave”, has emerged Spotify’s EQUAL Africa artiste for the month of November.

Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music, Sub-Saharan Africa, disclosed this in a statement, on Thursday, in Lagos.

Okumu said that the EQUAL Africa programme was meant to amplify the voices of African artistes, showcasing their art to larger audiences.

She said “Spotify is delighted to shine a spotlight on Nigerian music sensation, FAVE, as November 2024’s EQUAL Africa artist of the month.

“With her soulful voice, compelling lyrics, and distinctive rhythmic style, FAVE is a powerful presence in Nigeria’s music scene and beyond.

“FAVE is a shining example of the talent and potential emerging from Africa’s vibrant music scene.

“Her sound has resonated with listeners across the globe, and we’re proud to celebrate her as part of the EQUAL Africa programme.

“We look forward to seeing her inspire the next generation of artistes.”

Okumu noted that Fave first captured the public’s attention with her viral hit N.B.U. in 2020.

She said that since then, Fave had released multiple chart-topping singles and acclaimed projects, including her debut EP, Riddim 5, and her much-anticipated release, Dutty Love, set for Nov. 7.

She explained that her collaborations with some of Nigeria’s renowned artistes: Olamide, Simi, Phyno, and Davido had solidified her reputation.

Okomu said Fave’s feature on Davido’s Kante from the Timeless album was among Spotify’s Top 10 most-streamed songs in Nigeria for 2023.

Responding, Fave said, “Being a woman in the music industry can feel like an uphill climb, but it has made me more determined.

“The EQUAL programme is special because it centres on supporting women, ensuring our voices are given prominence. It’s empowering to be part of something that’s working towards balance in the industry.”

Fave revealed that something surprising her fans might not know about her was her love for movies and crime documentaries.

Speaking on artistes she grew up listening to, Fave said they include PSquare, Asa, Sasha P and Eva Alordiah.
