Save the Children International (SCI), a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO),
with financial support from the European Union (EU), on Thursday, donated three ambulances to Yobe Government.
The Country Director of SCI, Mercy Gichuhi, while presenting the vehicles to the state government in Damaturu, said the
donation was to support early recovery from conflicts and insurgency in the state.
She said that the donation was the fallout of the Resilience Programme started in June 2019, implemented by SCI
with financial support EU.
She explained that the vehicles would also enhance the state government’s capacity to lead, oversee, strengthen and expand its
social protection system.
Gichuhi said “vulnerable households and communities in Yobe are more resilient to recurrent shocks and have
diversified livelihoods through effective support for market recovery, skills development and enhanced capacity to
provide technical assistance.
“The 42 months project is implemented in partnership with the Yobe Government and development partners — International
Alert, CISLAC, and LHI.”
Dr Babagana Machina, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Management Board, expressed gratitude on behalf of Yobe Government.
Babagana, represented by Hamidu Alhaji, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, added that the ambulances would be used judiciously.
He reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to continue to partner NGOs to improve the lives of the people.
