At least six people, including two children, were drowned when a boat carrying them capsized in a dam in India’s south-western state of Maharashtra on Tuesday evening.
The local police officer said this on Wednesday.
The incident occurred in the backwaters of the Ujani dam in the state’s Pune district, amid rains and strong winds in the area.
There were a total of seven people onboard the ill-fated boat when it capsized.
One of them swam to safety, while the rest six were feared to drown.
Rescue work by the National Disaster Response Force and State Disaster Response Force was being carried out to locate those drowned, the police said.
The police added that the boat was on its regular journey, ferrying passengers between two villages in the area.
