Australia, India sign migration, mobility compliance

The prime ministers of Australia and India have signed a deal to boost mobility between the two countries.

Anthony Albanese and Narendra Modi met for official talks in Sydney on Wednesday, where the pair committed to strengthening the relationship on trade, renewable energy, and migration.

Following the meeting, they announced the finalization of the Australia-India Migration and Mobility Partnership Arrangement.

The deal will promote the movement of students, graduates, researchers, and business people between the countries while also boosting cooperation between law enforcement authorities on preventing people smuggling.

The leaders discussed the strength of bilateral trade, investment, and business relationships and reiterated their shared ambition for an early conclusion of the Comprehensive Economic Cooperation Agreement.

They also agreed on the terms of reference for a new Australia-India green hydrogen taskforce that will expand cooperation on the global clean energy transition.

Modi last visited Australia in 2014.
