Ghana’s ruling party concession of defeat, victory for democracy — Ossai
Dr. Nicholas Ossai, ex-member of the House of Representatives, says the concession of defeat by the incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia to opposition candidate John Mahama is a victory for democracy.
Ossai said this in an interview with the newsmen in Abuja on Monday.
He described Ghana’s democratisation process as exemplary compared to other African countries.
“Ghana has shown that it is truly on a democratisation process when a defeated incumbent concedes defeat.
“He goes on to congratulate the winner despite the flaws in the electoral process because no electoral process is flawless,” he said.
The former lawmaker called on other African nations to emulate Ghana.
According to Ossai, Ghana has shown that it is ahead of many countries in Africa in the democratisation process.
He explained that the victory of the opposition and concession of defeat by the ruling party was a testament to Ghana’s adaptation of democratic cultures.
Supreme News reports that Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Sunday conceded defeat in the 2024 presidential election to Mahama of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
