Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said on Thursday that she will propose a constitutional reform aimed at protecting Mexico’s national sovereignty.

This came a day after the U.S. designated various Mexican cartels as foreign terrorist organizations.

Sheinbaum made the statement during her regular morning news conference.

“The Mexican people will under no circumstances accept interventions, intrusions, or any other action from abroad that are detrimental to the integrity, independence, or sovereignty of the nation.

“These includes violations of Mexican territory, whether by land, sea, or air.”

She added that her government was not consulted by the United States in its decision to designate Mexican cartels terrorist organisation.

The United States on Wednesday designated the Sinaloa Cartel and other Mexican drug cartels as global terrorist organisation, according to a Federal Register notice.

The move came as concerns mount that U.S. President Donald Trump may be setting the stage to take unilateral military action inside Mexico.

Trump had floated the idea on mexico repeatedly during his presidential campaign.
