The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Umar Faruk-Umar, has urged journalists to always consider the interest of Nigeria by projecting its good image while discharging their responsibility.

The Emir gave the charge when he received members of the Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Katsina State chapter, on Tuesday in his palace in Daura.

“I want to tell you that, journalism is an important and great profession.

“Journalists are the gateway where policies and programmes of government are propagated and disseminated to the citizens, and to the global community.

“Never consider your job as a small one, think that you have a role of protecting the rights of the masses, state and the entire country.

“Your duty is not to write or say what you like, no, you have to be careful and think wise while writing your reports on the state and Nigeria as a whole,” he advised.

The monarch urged them to always tell the truth for the development of the state and the entire country.

“The President, Governors and we the Emirs, are proud of you if you do what you are supposed to.

“You can contribute to the progress of the nation and at the same time, you may contribute to destroy it. I hope you will not contribute in destroying our nation.

“Whenever we have patriotic journalists that have Nigeria at heart, surely, there will be a great progress and wealth creation,” he noted.

Faruk-Umar reminded them that they were more of marketers selling the image of the country, advising that marketers should be steadfast, truthful and fair.

“If you sell our country, Nigeria in a proper way, you will have a good reward of Paradise by the Almighty Allah, and vice-versa.

“I pray that Allah will help you in discharging your duty to assist us, the masses and the leaders,” he prayed.

Earlier, the Chairman of the chapel, Yusuf Ibrahim, who was represented by Tijjani Ibrahim, told the monarch that they were in his palace to seek royal blessings and fatherly advice.

He commended the role the emir had been playing towards the development of the state and the country in general.
