The Vice-Chancellor (VC), Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin, Prof. Noah Yusuf, has advocated the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) and robust synergy among security agencies to reduce cases of national insecurity.

Yusuf made the call during Tuesday’s capacity-building workshop, organised by the Centre for Peace and Security Studies of the institution.

The workshop, the third of its kind and Yusuf’s initiative on his assumption of office is tagged “Peace and Conflict Management Capacity Building Retreat”.

According to the VC, the programme was designed to expose students, security agencies and participants to peacebuilding engagements and effective law enforcement.

Yusuf called for the development of ‘peace skills’ among students and participating security agencies for the betterment of the nation.

“Synergy among our security agencies is also very important in reducing insecurity in our society.

“As observed here today, virtually all security agencies are present and this is very good for our country.

“We need more of this,” he said.

Earlier, the centre’s acting director, Dr Adekola Abdulazeez, reiterated the centre’s efforts to strengthen its mandate and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s peaceful co-existence.

“As a way of strengthening the centre’s relationship with Nigerian security agencies, the centre has almost completed the partnership arrangement with the Nigeria Police to serve as a resource institution for Police Intelligence College, located in Kwara.

“The partnership is to train its personnel on a non-kinetic approach to conflict and security management,” he said.

He said the students of the centre had just completed their two-week community fieldwork as part of the requirements for graduation.

“Let me also use this medium to inform you that the centre’s maiden Alumni Public Lecture will be delivered by the Inspector-General of Police, Dr Olukayode Egbetokun, our first Ph.D graduating student.

“The date will be announced in no distance time,” he said.
