LG chair pledges support for traditional institutions, gifts ruler official vehicle
Mr Wasiu Adesina, the Executive Chairman of Ikorodu Local Government (LG), on Wednesday reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting traditional institutions.
Adesina gave the assurance during the presentation of a Toyota Highlander SUV to the Paramount Ruler of Ikorodu Kingdom, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, Ayangburen of Ikorodu, at his palace in Ikorodu, Lagos
.
He said that it was a statutory responsibility of his office to support the traditional institutions within his council.
The council chairman acknowledged the critical role of the traditional leaders as custodians of cultural heritage and fostering community development.
“Traditional leaders play a significant role in community growth, especially as custodians of cultural heritage.
“It rests on the local government to support and enhance the mobility of these traditional institutions.
“The SUV will enhance the functions of the palace in Ikorodu and is also a symbol of unity and progress in Ikorodu LG,” Adesina said.
In his remarks, the traditional ruler, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, who was represented by Saliu Awolesi, the Apesin of Ikorodu, received the vehicle and thanked the council chairman, while also commending his visionary leadership.
He offered prayers for continued growth and progress in Ikorodu under Adesina’s administration.
He urged the council boss to maintain his partnership with the traditional institution for strengthened ties between them, and for sustainable development in the community.
Supreme news reports that there had been a little rift between the the council chairman and the paramount ruler over the installation of the Iyaloja-general in Ikorodu Division recently.
The matter resulted in the intervention of community elders who helped to resolve it amicably.
The reconciliation team was led by Bashorun Babatunde Rotinwa, a former Head of Service and ex-Chairman of Lagos State Civil Service Commission.
