The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos State Council, on Friday charged journalists in the state to stick to the ethics of their profession to advance Nigeria’s journalism industry.
The Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, gave the charge at a news conference to announce the council’s Second Annual Ramadan Lecture.
Supreme news reports that the conference took place at the council secretariat at Alausa, Ikeja.
The lecture will hold on March 19 at the Combo Hall, LTV Complex, Lateef Jakande Road, Agidingbi, Ikeja.
It will have the theme: “Building Bridges, Breaking Barriers: Fostering Unity and Understanding in a Diverse Society”.
Ajayi said that Ramadan was characterised by self re-examination, charity and desire for righteousness.
He urged journalists in Lagos State to use the opportunity of the Ramadan season to reflect on their journalism practice and ensure ethics.
According to him, the council is committed to promoting excellence in journalism and fostering good relationships.
“The annual Ramadan Lecture is a flagship event of the council aimed at fostering greater understanding and harmony among people of different faiths and backgrounds,” he said.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the event planning committee, Alhaji Jamiu Alonge, said that the lecture would promote journalism practice.
Alonge described journalists as the mirror of the society, saying that the month of Ramadan offered an opportunity for them to scrutinise themselves.
He urged journalists to use their profession to promote harmony and peaceful co-existence.
