Bauchi Teaching Hospital begins infertility treatment
The Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi says it will begin In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) diagnosis and treatment for infertile couples.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Yusuf Bara stated this at the inauguration of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) as part of the e-health solution on Thursday in Bauchi.
He said that experts from the hospital were being trained at the NISA Premier Bospital, Abuja to facilitate smooth implementation of the treatment.
“A full set of gynecologists, embryologists and nurses are currently being trained at NISA Premier Hospital, Abuja.
“Furthermore, a renowned gynecologist in the field of infertility and IVF, Dr Ibrahim Wada has come on board as visiting consultant in obstetrics and gynaecology, to ensure smooth take off of the programme and high quality services,” he said.
According to him, a team of experts and researchers from the ATBUTH/NISA medical group among other partners will initiate collaborative research to develop a cure for sickle cell anaemia.
Commenting on EMR, Bara described e-health as an emerging field in the intersection of medical informatics, public health through the internet and technology aimed at improving healthcare services.
“It is an e-mobile and web solution that links a patient based mobile health application with a hospital or doctor based Information Management System.
“It will effectively help people access health services remotely irrespective of their location at any given time,” he added.
Also, Mr Ali Saidu, National Commissioner, Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) in charge of the North East, said the technology would revolutionise medical care for our patients making the process faster, more efficient, and more accurate.
“e-health hub is one of the recipients of a NCC grant aimed at facilitating funding for the Innovation Startup Ecosystem.
“The grant is being provided by the commission to deploy Smart Clinic Solutions to facilitate appointments and payments to reduce queues in the hospitals,” he said.
He said the smart clinic has been deployed in teaching hospitals across the six geopolitical zones of the country.
The Chief Executive Officer, Prime e-Health Solution, Dr Are Abdulhafiz said that the clinic mobile app would also be used to book appointments, pay bills and check medical information.
He said that for clients without android phones or any device, a kiosk would be established to facilitate the e-health solutions using their smart cards.
