Erectile dysfuntion: Expert wants patients to seek help to rebuild confidence
A Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, Dr Moses Mafowosofo, has advised those suffering from erectile dysfunction to seek medical and psychological attention fast to rebuild their confidence.
Mafowosofo, a Co-founder of M2 Specialist Hospital, gave the advice during an interview with the News Men on Thursday in Lagos.
Mafowosofo said that erectile dysfuntion could create a huge psychological problem on patients with regard to sexual activities.
He said that many patients with erectile dysfuntion had fear of initiating sex.
The consultant said that erectile dysfuntion could attack self-confidence.
“What we have seen in most patients is that when they start medication, they tend to get their confidence back,” he said.
According to the expert, patients suffering from erectile dysfunction should first be checked for any underlying physical or psychological conditions to know the exact cause.
He said that hypertension, diabetes or cholesterol issues could cause erectile dysfuntion.
He added that depression and anxiety could cause the condition.
According to him, once the cause is detected, it should be treated.
He urged proper diagnosis and treatment to avoid complicating the problem.
“If treatment of underlying conditions doesn’t help, medication and assistive devices, such as pumps, can be prescribed,” he said.
According to him, those with psychological conditions could be sent for psychotherapy or sex therapy.
