In the complaint filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, the top regulatory authority accused Meta of alleged violation of advertisement regulations and exposure of different adverts targeted at the Nigerian market via Facebook and Instagram.

The Federal Government of Nigeria has sued a N30 billion lawsuit against Meta, the owners of Facebook, and AT3 Resources Limited, its agent.

The government filed the lawsuit via the Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria, ARCON.

In the suit filed before the Federal High Court, Abuja Judicial Division, the apex regulatory body accused Meta of allegedly violating advertisement regulations and exposing various advertisements aimed at the Nigerian market via Facebook and Instagram.

ARCON asserted that what Meta was doing without authorization was illegal, illicit, and a violation of the country's current advertising laws.

In October 2022, the court approved an application filed by the regulatory body in a pending N30 billion lawsuit against Meta for violation of Nigerian advertising laws.

At the corporate headquarters of Meta, which also owns Instagram, Messenger, and WhatsApp, the verdict will be rendered.
