She said that she stole the phone due to harsh economic situation.

A 55-year-old woman, Salima Muhammed was on Monday docked in Sharia court sitting in Magajin Gari , Kaduna for allegedly stealing an android phone worth N55,000.

The police charged Muhammed with criminal trespass and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Insp Ibrahim Shuaibu told the court that Muhammed on Dec. 28 2022, broke into Oluwabunmi Olawale’s house and stole an android phone.

He said that she recharged the phone with N19,900 credit from the nominal complainant’s account and later sold it to Dikko Odeyemi.

He prayed court to compel the accused to return or pay for the phone as well as compensate the nominal complainant.

The defendant pleaded guilty to the offence.

She said that she stole the phone due to harsh economic situation.

She also told the court that the man who bought the stolen phone had promised to pay the nominal complainant.

The judge, Malam Isiyaku Abdulrahman, admitted the defendant to bail on the condition that she provides a reliable surety.

Abdulrahman adjourned until March 6 for the prosecutor to present the nominal complainant.
