A businessman, Udeme Sunday was docked on Monday in a Dei-Dei Grade I Area Court in Abuja for alleged pumpkin seed fraud.

The police charged Sunday, who lives in Tasha II, Abuja, with criminal breach of trust and cheating.

The prosecution counsel, Mr. Charity Nwaosu, told the court that on July 2, the complainant, Ogwu Edith of Shangri Quarters, Dei-DeiAbuja, reported the matter at the Zuba Police Station.

Nwaosu said that sometime in April 2023, the complainant gave the defendant N96,000 to supply pumpkin seed for her

She said that the defendantsupplied pumpkin seed worth N20,000 and dishonestly converted the balance of N76, 000 to his personal use.

The prosecutor said that during the police investigation, the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of herself.

She said the offense contravened the provisions of Section 312 of the Penal Code.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The judge, Mr. Saminu Suleiman, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.

Suleiman adjourned the matter until July 15 for a hearing.
