Court dissolves 5-yr-old marriage on wife’s request

An Area Court at Center-Igboro, Ilorin, has dissolved a five-year-old marriage between Sofiat Abdullahi and Muhammed Suleiman on the wife’s request.

The Presiding Judge, Abdulkadir Ahmed, said the respondent sent a letter to court accepting the divorce request of the applicant and stating that he was no longer interested in the marriage either.

Ahmed therefore dissolved the Islamic marriage between the couple and ordered Sofiat to observe a mandatory three-month Iddah’ (the period she would wait before she could remarry).

Earlier, the applicant told the court that she was tired of her marriage because there was a lack of love between them.

She, however, pleaded for custody and maintenance of the child she had for the respondent.
