Court docked unemployed man for allegedly raping 20-year-old woman
An Ikorodu Chief Magistrates’ Court on Fridayordered that a 32-year-old unemployed man, Akinpelumi Temitope, be remanded in a correction facility for allegedly raping a 20-year-old woman and forcing her to take birth control pills.
The police charged Temitope, whose address was not given, with rape and felony attempt to procure abortion.
Chief Magistrate A. B. Olagbegi-Adelabu did not take the plea of Temitope.
She referred the case file to the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.
Olagbegi-Adelabu adjourned the case until Sept. 14 for mention.
Earier, the Prosecution Counsel, Mrs. Olawunmi Osibanjo, told the court that Temitope committed the offence on July 31 at the Igbo-Olomu Estate area of Ikorodu, Lagos State.
Osibanjo said that Temitope entered the apartment of the lady and raped her, as well as forcing her to take an overdose of bills.
The police said that the woman, who just concluded her one-year National Youth Service, was visiting her sister, who resides on the estate.
The sister reported the case to the police, leading to Temiope’s arrest, Osinbajo said.
She said that offence contravened the provisions of sections 260 and 145(2) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State (2015).
