Court remands 9 over alleged cultism, attempt to commit murder

A Badagry Chief Magistrates’Court on Monday remanded nine men in Awarjigoh Correctional Facility over alleged cultism and attempted murder.
The defendants are Dosunmu Sodiq, 29; Oluwasegun Adekunle, 37; Anthony Agosa, 27; Adesoji Adekunle, 35; Sehidu Olamide, 25; Rasak Oyebanji, 27; Oluwaseun Wusu, 30; Soqid Edwin, 29; and Keji Okunade, 37.
The Chief Magistrate, Mr Lazarus Hotepo, remanded the defendants after they pleaded not guilty to the three-count charge of conspiracy, belonging to unlawful society and attempt to commit murder.
He, thereafter, adjourned the case until March 7 for mention.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Adeosun, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on Jan.19 at about 9.00.a.m at Ibiye community off Badagry Expressway in Lagos.
Adeosun said that the defendants conspired among themselves to commit felony to wit unlawful society.
“The defendants belonged to an unlawful society known as Eiye confraternity.
“They attempted to murder one Abayomi Atoki by stabbing him with broken on his face, head and back,” he said.
According to him, the offences contravened Sections 411, 42 and 230 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
