Two students of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ilorin, Ms Ganiyat Jamiu and Mr Onize Abdulkareem, have been rewarded with financial awards by the Indorama Corporation, makers of Indorama Fertiliser.
Mr David Kunle, Representative of the corporation, during the presentation of the awards on Monday in Ilorin, said it was in recognition of the exceptional achievements by the students.
Kunle said that the corporation rewarded the students for being outstanding in their academic performances in Farm Practical Training (FPT).
He explained that the essence of the awards was to give back to the institution for promoting agriculture in its academic.
“We picked universities across the country as part of our giving back to Nigerian society because we want to encourage the students in agriculture to put more effort.
“It is a way of telling the students that there is a prospect in agriculture and to tell them to put more efforts into their studies.
“They also need to know that their stay is not by chance. They are learning agriculture by choice so that at least they will be fully baked,” he explained.
Similarly, the Dean, Faculty of Agriculture in the institution, Prof. Oluyemisi Fawole, appreciated the company for its unwavering commitment to education as well as its investing in the dreams and aspirations of Nigerian students.
Fawole noted that the company’s generosity and belief in nurturing talents were commendable, adding that the students’ hard work, determination and passion for Agricultural Sciences have not gone unnoticed.
“You have proven that excellence knows no boundaries, and your achievements serve as an inspiration to your peers and future generations of students.
”Today’s event underscores the importance of forging strong partnerships that contribute to the development of our students and the agricultural sector as a whole,” she added.
