Council advises farmers to purchase seeds from certified suppliers
The National Agricultural Seeds Council (NASC) has called on farmers to buy seeds from certified seed vendor companies to ensure bumper harvests.
The North Central Regional Director of the council, Mr Abu Maiwaazi, said this on Friday at a forum organised by the African Seed Company (SEEDCO).
Maiwaazi who was represented by Mrs. Grace Mari, a staff member of the council, said that the act was the first step to a bumper harvest.
Similarly, the Acting-Programme Manager, Plateau Agricultural Programme, Mr Simon Ago, called on farmers to ensure that they purchased quality seeds from certified companies to avert low crop yields.
Ago commended the SEEDCO for its support for farmers in Plateau through their programmes such as the "Demo Programme", which shows them new methods of getting better seed yields.
The SEEDCO Jos Sales Note Lead, Mr Jonathan Katungu, said that the programme would show farmers the company's new technology on improved varieties of seeds.
He said that many farmers would come to buy seeds from them and that they had always returned with testimony of high yields and bumper harvests.
Mr Cletus Gaiya, a farmer, said that since he started buying seeds from SEEDCO, his farming business had improved.
Also, Mrs Rejoice Ndam, a farmer, said that the company had helped her farming project.
