Nzekwe said the agricultural sector needed more attention because of the nation’s high food inflation.

The Federal Government (FG) has been advised to prioritise agriculture and harness its comparative advantage to boost the economy.

Dr Samuel Nzekwe, a former president, Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN), advised while speaking with the News men on Thursday in Ota, Ogun.

Nzekwe said the agricultural sector needed more attention because of the nation’s high food inflation.

“The Federal Government needs to focus more on agriculture and allocate more funds to the sector as the nation has a comparative advantage in the area.

“If the government can tackle food inflation, it will positively affect other sectors of the economy.

“It will also help to stem the suffering of the masses in the country,” Nzekwe said.

According to him, the nation’s budget for 2025 is good provided it is well implemented and funds allocated to each sector properly used to achieve desired goals.

He, however, commended the FG for allocating more funds to the health, education, infrastructure, and security sectors.

He noted that insecurity should not be ignored due to its negative impact on the economy.

“Insecurity is dragging the economy backward,” he said.

According to him, farmers cannot continue to avoid their farms for fear of being kidnapped.
