"Based on credible information, Ojo Division police officers raided shanties around the market, arrested suspected criminals, and recovered some weapons."

The Lagos State Police Command has cleared the air after a fire broke out at the Alaba International Market in the state on Friday.

On Friday, there were claims that the multi-billion Naira market had gone up in flames in the early hours of the day.

However, the Lagos State Police Command spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin, has stated that the market did not catch fire.

Rather, Hundeyin, a Superintendent of Police, stated that after a raid, fire was set to the shanties surrounding the market.

"This is a false narrative!" he tweeted on his Twitter account.

"Based on credible information, Ojo Division police officers raided shanties around the market, arrested suspected criminals, and recovered some weapons."

"The shanties were then set ablaze."

"The Alabama International Market is NOT on fire!"
