Samuel Ortom, the former governor of Benue State, is presently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Our correspondent learned that the ex-governor was summoned by the anti-corruption agency for questioning regarding his administration.

Ortom arrived at the agency's Makurdi zone office, located on Alor Gordon Street in the state capital at precisely 10:08 a.m.

He walked directly into the building.

Terver Akase, the former governor's media assistant, and Abraham Kwanhgu, his principal special assistant on special duties, were observed with him.

As of 11:25 a.m., when this report was lodged, he had not vacated the premises.

Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia's administration received a debt assessment totaling N187.7 billion from Ortom.

At a brief ceremony conducted in the old banquet hall of Government House in Makurdi, Ortom informed Alia that the three volumes of handover notes were a summary of his eight years in office.

The governor explained that the state's total income during his eight-year tenure amounted to N734.9billion as of April 2023, while the state's total debt amounted to N187.7billion, which included unpaid salaries, pension arrears, loans, and bonds, among others.
